Happy 2010!!

Snow, ice, and bitterly cold temperatures still dominate the weather here (and virtually everywhere else) so we have had to adjust our schedules somewhat.  But we are carrying on as well as we can.  We know that cold weather brings its own blessing, so we will not complain.

Recent weeks have found us busy with our cantata (His Name Is Jesus), a family Christmas dinner, an open house in the (soon-to-be) new manse, and with many visits, sharing with the needy activities, witnessing, and with youth group activities.  At the same time we have continued our Share The Joy Development Campaign for completing the purchase and development of the land and house adjacent to the church property.  To date we have received $9,350 in contributions and pledges.  If you wish to give, you may dedicate your contribution in memory (or in honor) of  someone.

In the light of this,  we are envisioning improved and enlarged Sunday School and Youth programs, as well as additional ministries to our senior members and to the Mountain City community.  We also are looking toward a greater involvement in missions in the U.S. and other countries.   We will appreciate your prayers and input.

We had a blessed New Year's Eve fellowship gathering on Thursday evening.

Again....God bless and Happy 2010!

With love,

Dr. Tom

August 2009

Cleaning, painting, fixing, and more are going on in the recently purchased house near the church, as well as in the surounding yard.  This new manse (an older house being refurbished) is only a few yards from the sanctuary. Additional parking spaces are being added around the church, and there is a vigorous enthusiasm for moving forward in the Lord's work.  Several people described working together on these projects as fun and exciting.  A superb concert by the Hills Are Alive! Chorus of Sweet Adelines International presented on Sunday afternoon on August 9 seemed to epitomize this spirit.

Mountain City Presbyterian Church is committed to reaching out more than ever  into the community with the message and active engagement of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We want to work with other dedicated churches that believe in the reality of God's universal church that is not restricted by denominational boundaries,  in touching the lives of people of all ages, including the very young and the elderly, and everyone in between.   Our love is extended to unborn and very young children,  to those addicted to drugs or alcohol, to adults who are struggling financially and in other ways, to older men and women who have special needs or simply need companionship, and more.  We also want to share the happier moments of life.  Above all, we want to see people come to the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation and life-time nurturing.  "Come unto me," our Lord said.  We want to be, along with God's people in other Bible-believing  churches, instruments of that invitation.

May God guide, protect, and inspire you always!

With love,

Dr. Tom

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.
